Going Soda-Free and Starting Out Again

Today is June 8, 2010.  My son is 22 years old today.  My daughter turned 19 a week-and-a-half ago.  One of my favorite quotes is “It is never too late to become what you were meant to be.”  At least, I think that’s how it goes.

I have been soda-free for two days; drinking a lot of iced tea, filtered water, and so far, so good.  The difficult part is it is so automatic to order or ask for a soda when going out to lunch.  (I’m an outside sales rep, so even when I skip breakfast, lunch has usually been at a fast food place)

My exercise program is beginning slowly and gently - some basic yoga movements (think Sun Salutations), some deep knee bends (pre-conditioning the legs to get ready for Hindu Squats and burpees), and some basic push-ups (done from the knees - oh, Lord I am so out of condition), and an effort to eat paleo — no sugars and no grains.  It’s true: My name is Chuck and I am a carb addict. (Hello, Chuck)

I may get an initial consultation with Steven Barnes of The Diamond Hour and Life-writing fame.  He posted he had a couple of spots still open, and I emailed him I was interested; we’ll see if I got in in time. I have been a big fan of Steve’s, both his work with the 5-minute Miracle and his introducing me to the concepts of Scott Sonnon and Circular Strength Training, as well as reading his science fiction / science fantasy work (go Aubry Knight - if you don’t know, ‘google’ it).

Eventually, I need to decide if I’m going to post daily what I’m eating and what exercise movements I’m performing, or just summarize the info every few days.  I guess it may depend on my work schedule.

I am gathering the info and data I need to begin a “Very Small Business” (thank you, Everett Bogue, Chris Guillebeau and Leo Babauta) and at the same time adopting my ways to a ‘rational minimalism,’ considering I am married and at this point, my wife is only marginally on-board for the whole minimalism thing.  She agrees in principle, but how we are going to go about it together is going to be a bit of a challenge.

Probably too much scattered content in this post; I’ll work to be more focused on only one or two points per post from here on out. I will share with you my metamorphosis both physically, spiritually, and as I develop my own business.
