A New Opportunity?

It’s Thursday, 06-24-2010.  Good workout, good meal planing, and a relatively unproductive day as far as work goes.

As I’ve said before, I am a Community Services Counselor with Dignity Memorial, the nation’s largest network provider of cemetery, cremation and funeral services.  It is a commission-only outside sales position - pre-need vs at-need.  But with the current economy’s affect on people’s financial situation- and their mindset about it - folks are recognizing the need, but are wanting to wait for things to improve before committing to taking on a temporary debt to pre-pay for the services.

While I completely sympathize with their position, after-all, I’m trying to simplify and “minimalize” my own life, I do need to generate income to pay rent and other bills.

So while looking for a ‘second’ or additional job through the internet job postings, I came across one for a Campaign Director - Team ’ n’ Training Director for the LLS — Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

This position is for the Orange County / Inland Empire (OC/IE) area in California and would allow an amazing blend of my personal and work skill sets; I read the job description and qualifications and it is as if they were laying out my personal background and experiences in the person they are seeking to fill.

Of course I immediately responded to the request to email a resume and sent a cover note asking for an interview.  I don’t like to get my hopes up, but the conversion of wants vs needs and the (to my mind) timing is life a God-send.

Yes, I am one of those ‘Christians’ who believes in God, Jesus and the whole nine yards.  Will this mean you’ll stop reading my blog posts?  I hope not, but for now, they are mostly for my own edification anyway.  That being said, I am hopeful that this is a door He is opening for me to walk through.

I would pray for the job; but I know that would be selfish, personal prayer for me.  Prayer is a communication tool to speak with God, not a means of treating Him like a cosmic vending machine where we ask for the things we want in life.  But, hey, if you would like to pray for me (or chant, or dance, or burn incense or whatever), please feel free to do so; I’ll take all the help I can get.  (You don’t know someone who knows someone, do you?)

This opportunity would truly be blessing; but I am still working on how to improve as a blogger, a person who is simplifying his life, and someone who is becoming a rational minimalist.

So stick around for the ride; it could get real interesting.
